OMM Clothing FAQ's
Q: What is the fit and sizing like for OMM garments ?
A: Please see the size chart in the workbook in the downloads section.
Q: How do you wash a OMM Kamleika Race or Cypher eVent Jacket or Smock ?
A: Your garment can be washed in a domestic washing machine on a warm (30° C) water temperature cycle. Before starting ensure the machine is free from everyday detergents and conditioners, as these could affect the coatings on your OMM garment, the garment should be washed with either a pure soap only (soapflakes) or a professional technical soap cleaner from either Nikwax (Techwash) or Grangers (30° C Cleaner) You should also always read the label on the garment for more specific instructions on that model
Q: Can I reproof my Kamleika Race or Cypher eVent Jacket:
A: Our garments use an internal membrane to make them waterproof so provided this is not damaged they will stay waterproof and won't need waterproofing, however our Waterproof gaments do also have a DWR (Durable Water Repellant) coating to the outer surface of the fabric, this helps the garment shed water and also give stain resistance. This can wear with time, to renew either a short tumble dry inside-out on a low heat setting can re-activate or you can re-proof using a professional technical re-proofer from either Nikwax (TX Direct wash in) or Grangers (30° C Proofer) before re-proofing your garment it should be cleaned using a pure soap, please see Q and A above on how to wash a OMM garment
Q: Why does the outside of the Kamleika absorb water and get heavy and cold:
A: The outermost fabric layer of an OMM shell garment, is treated with an ultra thin polymer coating known as DWR, or durable water repellent. This coating causes water to bead up and roll off the outer layer of fabric, instead of being absorbed. Water repellent outer fabric provides additional insulation and prevents liquid from saturating your garment's outer fabric, a condition known as "wet out" that can make you feel damp and clammy. Your garment may even feel like it's leaking, although it's not. Regular wear and tear, plus exposure to dirt, detergents, and other impurities, causes DWR failure. The effective life of the DWR depends upon how you care for your garment and how rigorously it is used. The most effective way to maintain your garment's water and stain repellency is to wash, rinse, and put it in your dryer. Keep it clean! See above Q and A's on washing and Re-Proofing.
Q: I've damaged the outside of my OMM eVent Cypher Smock or another OMM waterproof Garment what can I do ?
A: Minor punctures and tears can be fixed with a fabric repair kit, available at specialty outdoor retail stores. The special adhesive patches allow you to make instant repairs to preserve the waterproof integrity of your outerwear. You can also use our approved repairers Lancashire Sports Repairs or Tundra Outdoor Repair specialists.
Q: Is the PA1 sleeping bag still available?
A:We no longer have the PA1 in stock because of supply issues. We are currently working with a new supplier but probably won’t see any for sometime yet. In the meantime we are recommending Yeti as an alternative sleeping bag brand. www.yetiworld.com
Q: The water resistant zip on my Cypher Jacket is stiff and doesn't run well can I do anything about it?
A: When the garment is new the coating to the zip to make it water resistant can make the zip difficult to operate. A light coating on the zip runner of washing up liquid can help the zip to run and it will quickly get easier.
