Official Reports 2009
as at 15:12 Saturday.
The weather seems to have been much kinder than expected and the storm anticipated to hit around midnight didnt ocur and it was still dry when the first starters departed by bus at 6:52am. We have had very few retirements coming through and these have been able to use the OMM bus pick up points marked on the map and are able to have a meal immediately at the HQ facilites.
The emerging capabilities of the satelite network are remarkable; sending emails to the remote phoneless farm campsite and, wow, seeing streaming libe video of the runners arriving inside the barn. Awaiting Michael Napier's first results download at this point in time.

Everything is flowing well within the organisation and this year sees probably the greatest change ever in roles of the many sub teams involved. The weather is taking its usual turn. Last Saturday I enjoyed climbing in Langdale in glorious sunshine. However the customary end October deep barometric low (aka the OMM weekend storm) coming in from the Atlantic may hit us sometime Saturday but current forecasts indicate a spot of sunshine for prize presentation on Sunday afternoon, but everything could change, who knows?
Lots of reports and news releases starting to flow now;
A useful overview for all to read is the new section entitled 'press' which gives a synopsis of what the event is about, but of greater interest to competing teams; 'what happened last year?' and 'whats changed this year'?.
Jen's message to all competitors. 14th October does not seem to have reached all so its replicated in forum see direct link.
For those who would like a quick review of our post 2008 event summary its posted here
The full reports for 2008 are now in an archive section, see orange buttton top right, or just click here
News release by SPECTRA our telecoms sponsor. The satellite communications network they are providing for us is a key part of our operations this year linking HQ with overnight camp and finish which are all remote from the HQ unlike all previous events.
Rob Howard of Sleepmonsters will be reporting as usual, taking pictures of all and his first report is posted in the tab marked sleepmonsters.
'Route Gadget' will be used this year for the second time; its an amazing piece of software which enables competitors to draw and compare their routes post race. RouteGadget not only shows the routes, but when linked with our e-punch results, it allows the race to be replayed, even simulating a mass start. You will actually see little squares move across the map. It really adds another dimension to post-race analysis. Right now you can see 2008 courses ( +2007) so you can see what you missed because of the storm .
