Mule Bar

It all started on Cerro Aconcagua in the Andes, pretty high up at about 6200m where we had a lot of problems with our stomachs, were unable to find food you can eat and digest easily when you’re really out there. This is the mule and gaucho which inspired our the name of the bars and the icon silhouette we use.  That was in 2002. We got back to the sunny Wiltshire-Hampshire border in the New Forest, back to our makeshift office, the “Loveshack” and QMFC kitchen, and we got started on cooking up some ideas we’d had on the Andes expedition. The first bars were all over the place and wouldn’t fuel much, let alone an adventure, but they did spur us on. We kept at it most Friday afternoons, skiving off the dayjob mostly and finally started getting somewhere in about late 2004. Guinea pigs are easy to find when food’s involved with bikers and climbers and so we kept trying out the bars on mates who we were out riding with and after about ten times of turning up to races and being told our bars were better than the ones on sale we thought we’d better do something about it. We formed Fuel for Adventure, because that’s exactly what it is, and started designing wrappers, getting key nutritional help from our now partner Matt Lovell who just happens to be the England RFU nutritional advisor and took the bars off to a great mountain bike race all round Scotland. The bars went down a storm. Since then we’ve been out there spending long hours cooking up prototype after prototype and getting the bars better and better and tastier and tastier and delivering more and more energy. MuleBar has summited Everest, has ridden and now sponsors the incredible Absa Cape Epic mountain bike stage race across South Africa, is the Official Energy Bar of The 2009 Tour of Britain and the list goes on and on. The key thing is it’s Fuel for Adventure, for everybody’s personal adventure.Smile

Nineonesix

Since starting operation in 2003 nineonesix has helped clients to climb Beinn Eighe on Hogmanay as their first ever winter Munro; assisted film crews working on a hillwalking series. 'Tir is Teanga' for Caledonia TV; introduced clients to rock climbing and abseiling within walking distance of Shieldaig village. As well as visiting all of the Munros in Torridon with clients, trips have also been made to An Teallach, The Cuillins of Skye and The Cairngorm Mountains in winter. Our aim at nineonesix is to share this beautiful area with other people by leading them on hill walks, scrambles and climbs in these stunning mountains. Although based in the heart of the Torridon mountains nineonesix can also take you to other areas, just get in touch and we can plan something together!

You might have noticed that we do not have a raft of courses for you to try and fit into. We want to find out what you want to do, where you want to go and how long you have. At nineonesix we believe this makes the difference. We also believe that having leaders who live in this fantastic area makes nineonesix well placed to give clients an even fuller experience. Smile

Ramsay                  RAMSAYS ROUND. The Classic 24 Hour Scottish Challenge:

Just before noon on Sunday 9th July 1978, Charlie Ramsay from Edinburgh, Scotland, and a member of Lochaber Athletic Club in Fort William was seen running down the lower slopes of Ben Nevis, his mind seemingly possessed by a desperate degree of urgency as he crossed over the footbridge and onwards for a further 25 metres past the youth hostel, to his finishing line. There, his family and friends met him; as he checked his watch and fell to his knees with a mixture of exhaustion and elation.

For the previous 23 hours and 58 minutes Charlie had climbed a total of 24 Munros (mountains over 3,000 feet) of which Ben Nevis was the last. With just 2 minutes to spare he had achieved his dream of circuiting all the Lochaber mountains in a single day. Behind him he left a trail of exhausted bodies, his support team and even his teammate, Bobby Shields, who had to retire after 16 tops, so sustained was the pace.

Charlie has competed in the OMM many times and has helped marshall high level controls. Visit Charlies website here Cool
